These days, blockbuster movies that break box office records are almost always released. In fact, a lot of the highest-grossing movies in the last ten years have been released because of rising ticket costs. Nevertheless, in spite of their increased earnings, these movies have proven to have remarkable endurance, ruling the worldwide box office rankings and solidifying their legacy in the motion picture industry.
James Cameron’s epic 2009 film Avatar is currently topping the global box office. This movie’s lasting influence is further demonstrated by the fact that it is still the top movie almost 15 years after its debut, during which time ticket costs were significantly lower. Avatar: The Way of Water, the sequel, is not far behind and is presently ranked third. It’s interesting to note that Cameron, who is known for being a master of the box office, also places Titanic in the top 4.
It’s crucial to remember that these rankings aren’t inflation-adjusted, which would paint an entirely different picture of the greatest movies of all time. The Sound of Music, Titanic, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, Gone With the Wind, and Star Wars are among the domestic (US and Canada) leaders when inflation is taken into account.
