Searching for something to wear as the summer draws to an end? If you have an Amazon subscription, you have most likely not had time to go through all of the content that is available on Amazon Prime Video. Although there are a lot of intriguing films on this excellent streaming service, it might be challenging to locate something worthwhile if you don’t know what you’re searching for.
Here’s where we get involved. Whether you’re searching for an underappreciated superhero movie or anything about a serial killer, we’ve picked three underappreciated films that are the ideal way to spend the weekend.
Manhunter, released in 1986
Even though Michael Mann’s fantastic film Manhunter was released five years after The Silence of the Lambs, it still has a lot of value on its own. Will Graham, a detective brought out of early retirement to help with the case of the Tooth Fairy, a serial killer terrorizing Baltimore, is the main character of the film.
Will is compelled to speak with Dr. Hannibal Lecter, who is portrayed by Brian Cox and the reason he initially retired. Mann combines a great deal of style with a little surreal feel throughout the film, which works well with its more procedural aspects. Furthermore impressive is Cox’s portrayal of Lecter, despite the fact that Anthony Hopkins would soon expose him.
Travelers (2016)
Chris Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence in the trailer for “Passengers”
Passengers is the story of a man (Chris Pratt) who wakes up a century early from hyperbaric sleep on a space mission and eventually realizes that he’s going to die alone if he doesn’t wake up another passenger (Jennifer Lawrence). The film was mostly panned upon its release, but it’s far better than those reviews suggest. But if he awakens them, he will sentence them to death.
After he makes that decision, the film is probably not meant to be a romance, but it still has a huge budget, some extremely exciting action, and one of Lawrence’s best performances to date. Although it’s not flawless, Passengers receives more criticism than it should.
Darkman (1990)
Just one year after Tim Burton’s Batman, Sam Raimi created Darkman, a far darker superhero tale, ten years before he redefined the superhero movie genre with Spider-Man. In the film, a scientist takes on the guise of Darkman, a man who can change his appearance to terrorize criminals, in an attempt to exact revenge on the men who attacked and disfigured him.
Liam Neeson proves he could have played Batman in a different era in Darkman, which is a lot of fun despite being a touch ridiculous and having a small budget. Raimi always puts you in good hands, and Darkman is no exception.
