These Films Never Age

These Films Never Age

The truth is that you can watch most films only once and be content to never see them again. They simply lack that element, not because they are poor films. You understand what I mean. Even if it’s an almost indistinguishable feeling, some movies have a certain element that makes them timeless regardless of how many times you see them. These films, in my opinion, are the cinematic equivalent of comfort food, such as macaroni and cheese for the brain. In the long term, Love Actually receives far more play than Citizen Kane, even though none of these films are classics in the conventional meaning of the word.

A timeless film can be compared to a friend you’ve known since elementary school. You never grow tired of seeing them, despite the fact that you are well-versed in them. You may still laugh, weep, and feel secure and warm with them. I’m 90% certain that the magic in these films is real.

Everyone has a somewhat different list of timeless films, and I’m ready to accept that. We are all individual snowflakes at our core, which is what makes individuals so beautiful. All of the films on this list, however, have a fan base of some kind, demonstrating that nobody can get enough of them.

  1. The 1987 film Dirty Dancing
Dirty Dancing is endlessly quotable and will always be popular. The story of Baby and Johnny’s love is as unlikely as it is captivating: Baby and Johnny are legendary, as is Dirty Dancing, from their modest beginnings to that outrageous, eye-popping dance routine set to an unapologetically ’80s tune (despite the fact that the film was set in 1963).
  2. The 1993 film Jurassic Park
I don’t want to offend Jurassic World, but I doubt I’ll spend as much time watching it again as I have viewing the original film again. You always feel like you’re eight again when you see Jurassic Park because it’s a constant, high-adrenaline thrill rush. It’s a unique kind of film.
  3. The 1942 film Casablanca
Never stop shattering my heart, Rick. Casablanca is an absolute masterpiece: it has been among the most watched films of all time for eight decades, which is only possible when there is significant quality and narrative.
  4. (2011) Bridesmaids
A touching comedy about female friendship with all of your favorite funny women? The reason Bridesmaids endures several viewings is not surprising.
  5. The 1987 film The Princess Bride
One of the few films that really has something to offer everyone is The Princess Bride. It’s humorous, action-packed, fantasy-infused, romantic, and even a little dramatic. Additionally, it remains appealing at every stage of life, regardless of age.
  6. The 2003 film Love Actually
Love Actually is one of the most addictive films ever made, despite the fact that it may be extremely heartbreaking. It’s always so lovely and tragic that I forget how much of a jerk Alan Rickman’s character is to Emma Thompson’s or how creepy Andrew Lincoln’s character is to Keira Knightley’s. This film is a masterwork.
  7. The 2004 film Shaun of the Dead
Any film that skillfully blends comedy and horror like Shaun of the Dead is worthy of being on this list. Its cleverness, delightful silliness, and ability to reimagine the zombie genre make it a cult favorite. I still laugh even though I know all the gags (“Dogs can look up!”), and I still cry even though I know how it ends. A faultless film is perfect.
  8. The 1995 film Toy Story
The most enduring Pixar film is undoubtedly the original one. I always laugh when I see Woody and Buzz’s wacky escapade, and it always makes me feel good about people.
  9. As though there is a universe in which Cher and her friends become outdated, Clueless (1995).
  10. In 1985, The Breakfast Club
The Breakfast Club has inspired innumerable tributes because, even after 30 years, no one has surpassed its awesomeness. It will instantly transport you back to high school, but not in a distressing way, making it the ideal rainy-day film.
  11. The 1993 film A Nightmare Before Christmas
Since A Nightmare Before Christmas essentially covers the whole winter holiday season, holiday films are especially durable due to the strong sense of nostalgia they evoke. The film has won over the hearts of a generation because it is both genuine and cynical, and because Tim Burton is a genius, it will continue to do so for years to come.
  12. Mean Girls (2004)
Mean Girls is among Tina Fey’s greatest gifts, but she has given us so much more. Mean Girls will be there for you, like a stingy embrace, whether you’re having a sleepover or an adult girls’ night out.
